Rich Batsford is a singer, songwriter, pianist and composer creating artful recordings and unforgettable performances of his hypnotic and beguiling compositions and visionary song-craft.
His new album is Mindfulmess – a collection of songs reflecting a midway point in a lifetime’s attempt to make sense of reality and live accordingly, with frequently mixed results. Featuring lyrics ranging from the intensely personal to the openly inspirtational, a strong ear for melody, a warm, engaging voice and exqusite layers of vocal harmony, all underpinned by his delicate trademark piano patterns.
Previously, Rich released Valentine Court, a collection of meditative piano music which is an enchanting blend of minimalism and melody recalling Einaudi, Debussy and Glass. With just enough repetition of each delightful motif to draw the listener in, the organic, yet purposeful structures lead to moments of calm reflection, bittersweet joy and uplifting climax.
Keep on practicing
In addition to devotion to what looks set to be a long and hopefully fruitful music career, Rich devotes much of his time and energy to spiritual practices such as meditation, reflection, study and yoga. Through these efforts Rich hopes to make sense of reality and live accordingly, becoming more mindful and loving and sharing the fruits of that journey – with its many faults, through his passion for music.
As well as writing and recording his music, Rich also loves to perform live and has a number of concerts from June through til October in the UK and Australia, including the Edinburgh and Melbourne Festival Fringes.
